It's never too late, Break the Addiction

Opiate Treatment

At Sprout Health Texas, we pride ourselves in giving our patients the confidence to achieve and maintain their sobriety.

Opiate TreatmentOpiates are derived from the poppy flower and can be found in drugs like morphine, heroin and codeine. They are known to enhance the body’s natural painkillers by blocking pain signals in the spinal cord and brainstem. Basically, the opiates trick the body into thinking it is not in pain and over time, like most addictive substance, will trick the body so much that it will no longer produce its natural painkillers; thus causing the user to continually use the substance in order to retain their euphoric feeling. However, this feeling will not last because the prolonged use of a substance will cause the body to become tolerant and eventually dependent. Either users will try to find something stronger or they will use way too much of their substance and overdose.

The symptoms of opiate addiction include:

  • Anxiousness
  • Irritation
  • Restlessness
  • Aching muscles
  • Sleeplessness
  • Excess mucus
  • Excessive bodily secretions of the eyes and pores
  • Bile
  • Nausea
  • Heart damage
  • Decline of respiratory system
  • Stomach cramps
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Severe mood swings
  • Severe depression
  • Decreased quality of life

Even though opiates are prescribed legally, they are the most widely abused drug. In fact, three-fifths of legally prescribed opiate users become addicted. Medical experts contribute their intense euphoric feelings to the 60 percent of users becoming addicted.

Opiate addiction treatment begins with the detoxification process as well as nutritional and psychological support. In some cases, opiate addiction can be treated with a drug called Naloxone. This is used to reverse the effects of an opiate by blocking it and should be closely monitored by medical professionals in a hospital setting.

The next step in our treatment program involves a wide variety of therapies. Opiate addiction is best treated with experiential therapies, such as tai-chi, meditation, equine therapy and holistic approaches. Our therapies teach them how to acknowledge their maladaptive behaviors and work on ways to change them. One of our most effective therapies, the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, is another therapy created to help patients acknowledge their problems and create their own solutions.

At Sprout Health Texas, we pride ourselves in giving our patients the confidence to achieve and maintain their sobriety through our highly effective therapies. We understand that having a large support system can greatly influence our patient’s willingness to continue their recovery even after they leave our treatment facility, which is why we also provide group and family sessions.
