It's never too late, Break the Addiction

Marijuana Addiction Treatment

Sprout Health Texas understands that because of its social acceptance, we must first help our patients understand why and how they are addicted.

Believe it or not, marijuana is addictive and widely abused by a large percentage of Americans. We understand that many people believe there is nothing wrong with using marijuana; however, studies show that there are effects that occur after prolonged use.

Outpatient Treatment Around Texas

Over 20 states have legalized the use of medical marijuana due to its potential medical benefits to ease the pain of AIDS, glaucoma and cancer.

Marijuana is used among adults mostly; however, there is a growing trend of adolescent and young adult use. Studies show that teens who start using will continue their use into adulthood and because of its social acceptance, most users will never seek treatment.

Effects of Marijuana

Marijuana affects mental state, short-term memory, ocular pressure and reasoning. The most notable effects being:

  • Lethargy
  • Anxiety
  • Paranoia
  • A sense of alteration
  • Altered visuospatial reasoning
  • Effects on attention
  • A reduction of intraocular pressure
  • Dryness, which creates red eyes.

Marijuana causes an altered sense of time and space as well as variations in mood. Perceptions become unclear, problems with coordination occur and certain risk factors cause the possibility of depression and schizophrenia.

The prominent effect of marijuana is dry-mouth. It also causes an increase in heart rate and future lung obstruction. THC actually causes anxiety and the smoke increases the risk of developing chronic obstructive lung disease.

Managing Your Marijuana Addiction

Sprout Health Texas understands that because of its social acceptance, we must first help our patients understand why and how they are addicted. It is widely perceived that marijuana use leads to the use of other illicit drugs; therefore, if our patients understand addiction, they should be able to resist the temptation to abuse other drugs.

Like most of our programs, we believe that including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy will greatly benefit recovering patients. It allows patients to recognize their maladaptive behaviors as well as teaches them how to positively react to certain situations.

We also offer family and group therapies. Family involvement gives us the insight into your health history and family life, as well as provides your family with the knowledge on how to support their loved through the difficult process of recovery.

We know that treatment and recovery are not easy and we assure you that we will be with you every step of the way. We provide a safe, tranquil and supportive environment.
